Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town is the capital and the second biggest city of South Africa, situated in the south west of the country, nearby the Cape of Good Hope, which is well known worldwide for its delicious wine. This capital has around 3.5 million inhabitants. Cape Town is one of the most popular tourist destinations in South Africa, because of its beautiful natural setting, its Mediterranean climate and its well developed infrastructure. Another name for Cape Town is the Mother City.

The primary attraction for most people visiting Cape Town are the beautiful natural features, like the Table Mountain, the Chapman’s Peak and the different kinds of beaches. A nice thing to visit is the statue of Mary and her husband Jan van Riebeeck, which is the founder of South Africa, on the square between the Herengracht and Adderley Street. Another interesting sight to visit is Robben Island, which is a notorious island which was used a prison for almost 400 years by the Dutch East India Company. Troublesome sailors from Cape Town would get caught and put in this prison.

Cape Town will be the host city for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and hosts the Red Bull Big Wave Africa surfing competition every year. It’s a great holiday destination with many excitement sights on offer. Greenbookings invites you to visit Cape Town.
