Las Vegas is the place for shopping, gaming, partying and entertaining. It is the most famous city in the state of Nevada. It is located in the middle of the desert, was settled in 1905 but didn't dity rights until 1911. Las Vegas has a population of more than 550.000 and the city is still growing. It is especially famous for its quantity of big and extrovert casinos. The city is also very important for the film and television industry. Las Vegas is the city of opportunities as it is possible to get married in just one day. In Downtown Las Vegas life doesn't start until nightfall.

There are more than one hundred hotels and the most famous are located at The Strip along the Las Vegas Boulevard. One of the most famous casinos is the Flamingo, which was established by Benjamin (Bugsy) Siegel. This big casino and hotel was built with illegal money and has 3626 hotel rooms. Many famous artists have performed in the city's casinos, like for example Celine Dion. The nights in Las Vegas are very special with all the fluorescent lights and big entertainment shows. There are many choices for shows like magic shows, production shows and tribute shows. A few of the most special shows are the Masquerade Show in the Sky (free), Mama Mia (production) and Penn and Teller (magic). All the shows have special effects, music and lights. Another interesting fact is that quite a few films are shot in Las Vegas such as Oceans Eleven and its successors.

Don't worry shopaholics, as there are many shopping centers, shopping malls and department stores at the Strip and in also in Chinatown. Good food is offered at Furnace Creek Inn Dining Room and the 49'er Cafe is also recommended, but there is a lot more on offer. If you want something else than casinos and shows, then you can visit the Death Valley National Park, which is a two-hour drive from the city. This National Park is 130 miles long and is surrounded by the Pananmint mountains at the Westside and the Funeral, Black and Grapevine mountains at the eastside. It’s also possible to make an excursion to the Grand Canyon. This big deep gap is 435 kilometers long and has a width of between the 15 en 29 kilometers. The results of weathering give the Grand Canyon a very special and beautiful view.
