Mexico City, Mexico

Mexico City is the capital and largest city of Mexico. Mexico City has 22 million inhabitants and is one of the largest cities in the world. In the 20th century the population began to increase heavily and this caused some serious transport problems. Nowadays, the metro and trolleybuses make up the excellent transportation network, but it's still quite crowded.

One of the most popular sights of the city is the Zocalo, the square where the Aztec Templo Mayor, the National Palace and the Spanish Cathedral are located. This square is the third largest square in the world and is based in the Centro Historico, in the middle of downtown Mexico City. The historical part of the city provides some great works of architecture and is a pleasure to walk through. In the southern part of the city you'll find the artistic neighborhoods’, where many beautiful artworks can be found and bought, at surprisingly low prices.

Avenida de los Insurgentes is a long street running from the north to the south of the city. This is a famous street, as it is the longest street in the world. Many tourists try to walk along the street from beginning to end but are often not capable to finish. In the middle of the Avenida you will find the Paseo de la Reforma. On the roundabouts of the Paseo you will find many monuments. A must see is the Polanco. Another nice place to visit is the Basilica of Guadalupe, where it can get crowded as many millions of pilgrims annually visit this Basilica.
