London is the capital of England, as well as that of the United Kingdom. This famous city is the biggest city of Western Europe and has around 7.5 million inhabitants. One of the city's most popular landmarks is the Tower Bridge. The bridge was built in 1894 and runs across the river Thames. It is located close to the Tower of London, where its name derives from. London also has many beautiful historical buildings such as St. Paul's Cathedral, where prince Charles and Diana married. You should also visit the Palace of Westminster, the place where the English parliament resides and where the famous Big Ben can be seen up in the bell-tower. The most popular sport in England is football, so you can visit many huge stadiums like the Wembley Stadium/Arena. No worries for shop lovers either; Oxford Street is a great place for shopping. This main street annually has 200 million visitors and there are several famous department stores such as Selfridges, Marks and Spencer and John Lewis. In this busy city there's also time for some relaxation. A good location for this is Royal Park or Hyde Park, which includes London Zoo. There are strict rules to keep the parks clean and green, which means they stay beautiful. For a nice dinner you can visit many different areas in London like Chinatown and Soho. Typical for the restaurants in London are the many multi-cultural restaurants, which provide a wide choice. A nice thing to do by night is to visit one of the great theaters. London is the city of big musicals and shows. This city promises evenings full of entertainment and fun. In the West End, the biggest and oldest theaters host musicals and plays like Cats, Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera.
