Paris; the city of love. One of the four world cities, next to Tokyo, New York and London. Many world famous pieces of architecture can be found here such as the 317 meter (1040 feet) high Eiffel Tower, the Notre Dame cathedral and the Arc de Triomphe. Of course this isn’t close to everything the city has to offer. In the bohemian neighborhood of Montmartre you’ll find the white church Sacre Coeur. And let’s not forget the Louvre, the world-famous museum where the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci is on display. One thing is for sure; when you're walking through the streets of Paris, you’ll see a succession of monumental buildings, tourists with their cameras and many couples who declare their love for one another.
Besides culture, Paris is also very much enriched by its culinary expertise. It is no coincidence that the words cuisine and restaurant originate from the French language. The many different quarters in Paris are filled with restaurants and bars. A quarter with some of the best restaurants and other businesses of hospitality is the Montmartre. This quarter is located on a hill with at its top the Sacre Coeur. This offers a great view of Paris and on the touristy square of Place de Tetre you can enjoy some mussels or onion soup. Another good opportunity to get acquainted with French cuisine is to visit a good restaurant in the quarter Quartier Latin. The Rue de la Huchette harbors relatively cheap restaurant which makes it very busy during high season.
Paris has quite a clear setup. The river Seine divides the city's seven hills in two. The initial concept for this was developed when Napoleon III gave the architect Hausmann the assignment to redevelop the city during the nineteenth century. As a consequence many outdated quarters were demolished and in their place many boulevards, squares and avenues were constructed. Out of these avenues the Champs-Élysées is by far the most famous. This avenue reflects the updated style of Paris perfectly. In the big buildings surrounding it many store chains and famous brands are established. About two million people live in the city itself. Together with the 11 million people living in the surrounding suburban areas, they make Paris one of the most lively cities in the world.
