Top 10 US golf destinations

One of the most popular pasttimes of the moment Golf and these are our best courses to visit for a good round of golf.

1. Hilton Head, South Carolina
The readers of Golf Digest put South Carolina’s Hilton Head Island at number 10 on a list of the world’s best resorts. Do we really need to say any more than that? Well we could say a bit more about this golf course. For example; you can choose from more than 20 golf courses that wind around marshes, lakes and lagoons. The surroundings are absolutely stunning and if a nice game of golf does not relax you the surroundings of this stunning golf course will. The golf course is also easy to travel to located only 20 miles north from Savannah Georgia and 93 south of Charlston.

2. Las Vegas, Nevada
If you mention Las Vegas to most people, the first thing that springs to mind is the gambling and the famous strip. But Las Vegas has also become a premier golf destination with more than two-dozen courses to choose from. Popular choices include Reflection Bay, Royal Links and The Canyons. Just be mindful of the time of year many people do not realize that Las Vegas is in the desert if you travel there in the summer, you can expect temperatures over 100. These temperatures are fine if you stay in the comfort of your air-conditioned hotel but out on the course it can get dangerously hot so keep that in mind.

3. Maui, Hawaii
Aside from the lush beauty one normally associates with Maui, the Hawaiian island also offers the state’s only 54-hole courses, Wailea and Kapalua. According to the visit Maui website, there’s plenty of availability to go around: “Although Maui hosts several well-known professional tournaments tee times are rarely hard to come by.” So if you feel tempted to play this course and also enjoy all the amenities a tropical island has to offer you pack your clubs and fly to Maui Hawaii.

4. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Myrtle Beach is a favorite for family trips for a lot of people that travel there each year. Besides the beach at Myrtle Beach that is always a big favorite with the children you can also indulge yourself in playing a few rounds of golf on one of the golf courses the town has on offer. Myrtle Beach has plenty of golf for “big kids,” the locals do not call it the golf capital of the world for nothing. A few of the Popular courses include The Legends, Grand Dunes, Wild Wing and Tidewater. But if these do not suit you there are another 100+ courses to choose from.

5. Orlando, Florida
When thinking of Orlando you probably think of images of Disney World, Universal Studios and similar attractions. But this theme park town also attracts plenty of golfers to its more than 20 courses. Popular stops include Orange County National, Bay Hill and maybe too numerous surprise the Disney golf course. Where else can you golf while you can leave your children in the caring hands of Mickey Mouse? Another added bonus of the town of Orlando is that Tiger Woods also calls it home so come to Orlando and maybe bump into the number one golf legend in the world.

6. Palm Springs, California
If you like the idea of golfing on lush green courses with plenty of palm trees and a backdrop of rugged mountains, Palm Springs is the place for you. Within the Coachella Valley, there are more than 100 courses. According to GolfDigest.com, “PGA West, La Quinta and Mission Hills North are the three big resorts in town.” Although the location is amazing we do user the same warning here as we do with the courses in Las Vegas remember you are in the dessert it can get really hot in the summertime. But this should not stop you from visiting this golf Mecca in California.

7. Phoenix / Scottsdale, Arizona
We are more than aware that Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona are two different cities. But they’re so close to one another and they appeared together on so many lists that we felt they deserved to share a spot in this top ten. The desert landscape alone that surrounds these two towns is worth a trip on its own. Add to that the abundance of world-class golf courses, and you have a desert paradise for any avid golfer. The dessert climate also ensures that the weather will be great almost all of the time you are there.

8. Pinehurst, North Carolina
The Carolinas come up on a lot of lists they apparently love golf in these two states. Pinehurst is both a resort and a small village. The website PinehurstGolf.com explains: “Pinehurst, the resort, is a wonderful collection of historic hotels and eight world-class golf courses that is widely considered one of the top golf destinations in the world. Pinehurst, the Village, is a quaint New England style town…” the town has a big golf history hosting several riders cups, US opens and a PGA championship. So do not hesitate and come play these beautiful and famous courses that surround Pinehurst.

9. San Diego, California
San Diego a city that is worth a visit in its own right but also a perfect golf destination. Whether you go for the golf, the sightseeing or a combination of the two, San Diego won’t disappoint. San Diego County has excellent weather year-round, allowing for plenty of golf days on any of the county’s 80+ golf courses. Torrey Pines and La Costa are two of the popular stops in the long list of courses that are dotted in and around San Diego.

10. Williamsburg, Virginia
If you like history as well as a golf, than you should put Williamsburg, Virginia on your wish list of towns to visit to play a nice round of golf. Colonial Williamsburg is a living history museum that lets you step back in time to the days of the Revolutionary War. When you have had your fill of US history and are ready to step out onto the green, you’ll find more than a dozen top-rated courses to accommodate you. A few of the more popular courses are Stonehouse, Royal New Kent and Kingsmill.
